Recommendation from Emily, current student

Mr. Haap was my English teacher in the 2010-2011 school year, and he became one of my favorite teachers. I’ve had a lot of good classes and teachers, but this year’s class was exceptional because Mr. Haap was able to really challenge me and to get my classmates and me to really express ourselves. He does a better job than any teacher I’ve ever had asking the difficult questions and getting us to express ourselves in a way that a counterargument cannot be formed, and he is forever asking us the simple but hard questions, like “So what?” and “Who cares?”

Not only does he help us form arguments and write essays, but Mr. Haap also makes sure that through the literature that we read and the conversations and discussions we have we gain perspective on the world. I remember when we read A Tale of Two Cities and I hated it for the first ¾ of the book, but Mr. Haap pushed me through it and kept me engaged to the very end when I realized how intricate the plot really was and how much I actually loved the book. He helps us appreciate the literature we read and the situations we read about. This year has been really great, Princeton is really going to miss Mr. Haap, and any school that gets him is very lucky to have him.
