Abby Friend’s Recommendation, student from 2008-2011
What can you say about a teacher like Mr. Haap? It all seems so cliché but I honestly feel like there will be those few teachers that mold the way you think. In elementary school, I was taught to care about learning, but I lost that once my teenage years began. Reflecting on my high school career, I can see that Mr. Haap helped to change that. His teaching forced my peers and me to think differently from how we’d been taught – which reaches well beyond the four walls of his classroom. I have been in many situations in my life when I have been able to use things that I’ve learned in his class to help me in arguments and work through my ideas.
Mr. Haap constantly plays devil’s advocate, which helps to develop our ideas and helps us grow as students and as young adults. Mr. Haap has helped me even after I was in his class, and he currently is helping me writing the story of my life. After having Mr. Haap in class, once again I began to enjoy learning and reading, and I started to look at everything in life analytically instead of just cruising through life, accepting what I saw as the truth. Mr. Haap truly is an educator and I praise his methods and ideas, and I hope to become as effective of a teacher one day as he is.
